If you can’t already tell, I really dig Neon light.
Apparently Nikon noticed, because at the beginning of January they reached out to me to write an article about my work and feature my imagery. I was absolutely blown away by the opportunity.
My use of neon signs to light portraits has evolved greatly over the years. Developing a style doesn’t happen over-night. It takes years of experimentation, dozens of collaborations and tens of thousands of photos. But with the right dedication, you’ll see your style evolve over time into something that’s unique to you as an artist.

I’m by no means the only photographer in the world to take a snapshot lit by a neon sign. I’m not the only photographer to use lens modifiers like prisms either.
But my goal is to go beyond taking photos — to making photos.
There is a lot of preparation, thought and intentionality that goes into to each photograph I make. Hues, flares, reflections and every element in the composition — are all intentionally placed and balanced. The goal is to make a photograph that is greater than the some sum if its parts, eg. a model and a light source.
A famous classical music composer was once asked, “What is your favorite piece you’ve ever composed?” To which he replied: “My next one.”
Art is an ever evolving process. A photographer’s journey is never complete … a photograph is never really complete. As photographers, each image is a stepping stone to the next.
